Wherever You Are (Ulrich Schnauss)

Today I taught Community Class, one of my favorites. It's always a mixed bag of students ranging from regular practitioners to the newly-captivated with an occasional first-timer showing up. This time I had all three - and the first-timer happened to be a friend who said he loved yoga.

When I asked, "Is this anyone's first yoga class?" his hand shot up. Huh?

Teaching new students is a cross between easy-peasy and overwhelming pressure. No one wants to be responsible for someone's bad first impression of yoga. I briefly considered revising my class plan then remembered the more advanced students in class. I had to let go of my ego and treat him like any new student.

So I wasn't entirely successful. I kept watching him out of the corner of my eye and was more liberal with adjustments than I'd have been with a complete stranger.

"Wow! Everybody loved you!" he said afterwards, sounding... surprised. Yes, surprised.

Good thing I was able to let go of my ego.  (Gulp.)
