Coming Clean (Spoon)

Mana felt a detox or cleanse would move the residue from the San Francisco trip through my system more quickly, helping "prepare my body for a new life."  He selected Natural Factors 7 Day Nutritional Cleanse (available at Whole Foods), and I began today.

Since I'm chronically running behind, I prepared the breakfast shake, planning to read the complete program details more thoroughly after dropping off the kids.
Though the instructions suggest mixing the RevitalX powder with some fruit and water, I added the following ingredients at Mana's recommendation:
  • 2-4 oz aloe juice.
  • 1t probiotic powder
  • 1T Essential Balance by Omega Nutrition
  • 1/2 t triphala
  • 2T Goji juice
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • Frozen berries
When I finally read the complete program, I was alarmed to learn I'd be having two such shakes per day accompanied by nothing more than copious amounts of water, fresh fruit and lightly steamed vegetables. As far as I'm concerned, a fast.

Now I tend to be a pretty healthy eater anyway. I maintain a vegetarian diet (no meat, poultry or fish) and ingest no soda, very little white flour, gluten or processed sugar. My nutrients come primarily from hummus, beans, cheese, kamut, and almond butter, but I take extreme pleasure in red wine & chocolate - neither of which are allowed.

I know - it's only for 7 days, and it's not like I'll be "fasting"-fasting. But still - I wish I'd had a chance to mentally prepare myself.  Then again, perhaps it's better to just jump and do it before I have a chance to overthink. Either way, I guarantee the plan will be revised to include red wine & chocolate.
