Detox Day 3.
I smell funky.
Stated side effects of the program include, "headaches; skin breakouts; mild diarrhea or nausea; excess mucous production."Fortunately, I'm experiencing none of those. But nowhere does it say my pores will emit funk, and during practice today, I definitely emitted the distinct smell of funk. (Apologies to Amy, who was teaching today.)
It makes sense, of course, in the same way one's pores ooze the smell of vodka when working out after a night of heavy drinking. So too during a detox, toxins are excreted not only through the digestive system, but also through the pores. What was surprising was how strong the smell, and how metallic - likely due to the "heavy metal" element of the detox.
Even worse, my practice was only so-so, but this was attributable less to the funk and more to the after-effects of a week in San Francisco. The tightness in my hips, glutes, and hamstrings were a sharp reminder of climbing the hilly streets of San Francisco. Yowza.
Tomorrow is Mysore day - hopefully things will open up a bit.
